With the 100-degree weather we experienced earlier this month, you might be surprised that summer is still a few days away. But as you’re reading this, kids are getting out of school, more sunshine is on the way, and the City of Tualatin is busy making preparations for a host of Summer activities on the Tualatin Commons: Concerts on Fridays, movies on Saturdays, and a variety of family-friendly Summer Reading Events on Tuesdays… and don’t forget about the Crawfish Festival, which is right around the corner. Look for the insert in this paper for more details.
On page 5, Loyce Martinazzi shares her memories of strawberry season in Tualatin and the Willamette Valley. The warm weather has brought about an early strawberry harvest this year and the berries are going quick! You might want to check out the new Bridgeport Village “Local Goodness Farmers Market” that runs on Wednesdays from 4-8pm. Also new this year, you’ll find vendors offering fresh, local produce during the Concerts on the Commons every Friday night beginning July 1st.
If you participate in Social Media, you’ve probably noticed the political dialog has become increasingly intense and divided. Regardless of what side of the fence people are on, they generally seem to want the same things in life; they just can’t seem to agree on how to get there. I often wonder what would happen if people would take some of that energy and divert it into getting involved with local politics, where there voices are truly needed. We’re lucky to have a city council that encourages citizen’s involvement, as demonstrated in the Mayor’s Corner column that you’ll find on page 12. Another excellent way to get involved in your community is through your neighborhood CIO, which you’ll find on the same page.
Every day something reminds me of why Tualatin is such a great city in which to live, work and play. I believe Tualatin Life’s success over the last several years is a direct reflection of that.
