Mask & Mirror Community Theatre will open their winter production – Beth Henley’s 1981 Pulitzer Prize winning “Crimes of the Heart” – on March 4. The show plays Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm until March 26 on “The Stage” at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard (no Friday shows due to Calvin’s winter homeless shelter). Tickets remain an affordable $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, and are available online at www.MaskandMirror.com/ box-office, by email at Tickets@MaskandMirror. com, or by calling 503-333-1139.

In “Crimes of the Heart” it’s 1974 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny is 30 and unmarried; Meg is back home after a failed singing career; and Babe is out on bail after having shot her politician husband. Their troubles are grave and yet, somehow, hilarious in this brilliant, dark comedy. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future, but the telling is so true that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.

The show is directed by Linda Talluto, a local actor and director for over 40 years; and a former drama teacher in the Tigard-Tualatin School District who directed local students in over 45 shows. Linda says, “In Crimes of the Heart there are underlying themes of death, good and evil, limitations and opportunities, and public vs. private life; but what I hope the audience takes away is a sensitive and complex view of relationships.”

Linda has assembled an exceptionally talented group of local actors to present “Crimes of the Heart”; and is being supported by an equally talented backstage crew laboring to bring this play to life on “The Stage” at Calvin Church.

Mask & Mirror Community Theatre is now in its 6th season of presenting high quality and affordable (no tickets are more than $15) live theatre to the citizens of Tigard and Tualatin – using all-volunteer actors, stage crew and administrators.

Participation and membership is open to all. We welcome experienced performers and theatre “wannabes” – we’ll train you!
