What a political season it’s been! On a national level, I don’t think we’ve ever seen this many twists and turns leading up to a presidential election. Here in our quiet little town of Tualatin, we have our own heated political issues, not the least of which is Measure 34-247 (Term Limits). I was happy to see a great turnout at the Candidates Forum last month, and once again, we’ve devoted a fair amount of space to the election, giving both sides an opportunity to share their views. If you haven’t already voted, I urge you to spend some time with our special election coverage on pages 12 & 13. Hopefully, with a little luck, we can collectively make the right decisions on these important issues. And in less than a week, we can relax, take a break from the political commentary, and concentrate on more important issues… like getting ready for the holidays. If you’re starting to suffer from election-overload, Dr. Jeff Clark provides some excellent tips to deal with election related stress on our back cover.

There are a lot of things happening around Tualatin to help get you get out of the house and into the holiday spirit. The Chamber will be holding their Annual Holiday Dinner and Auction on December 6th at the Tualatin Country Club – and if you’re interested, be sure to attend the Preview Party on November 17th. (See page 3 for details.) If theatre is your thing, Mask & Mirror Community Theatre opens their 6th Season on November 4th with a production of The Last Night of Ballyhoo (page 6.)

For a younger audience, a local Tualatin family has been instrumental in Christian Youth Theater’s production of Shrek the Musical JR., which opens on the 11th (page 5.) Finally, if you’re like me, and tell yourself every year you’re going to get a jump on Christmas shopping, you might want to head over to the library this weekend, where the Friends of the Library will be holding their annual Used Book Sale. You just might find that perfect gift for a hard-to-buy-for loved one. (page 22).

Being that November 11th is Veterans Day, I was honored to share the heartwarming story below, about two vets, father and son, separated 35 years ago and only recently united – just in time for Thanksgiving. And if you haven’t already gotten your tickets for Tualatin’s Veterans Day Breakfast, held at the Juanita Pohl Center November 10th, you might want to give them a call soon. Free for vets and $10 for others. This event sells out every year.
