Rain doesn’t slow down Jonn “J-Dogg” Karsseboom, nor does 25 years of running a successful nursery.

The Garden Corner celebrated its 25th year in business on Thursday, March 20 with complimentary hot dogs, mochas, lattes and the grand unveiling of the Spring 2025 Special Edition of the World’s Largest Hanging Basket.

“Being in business for so long makes you emotional,” says Karsseboom, “Whatever you do in life, there are secret people that are cheering for you.”  He said his father loaned him $10,000 when he first started. “I remember how fast I went through ten thousand dollars.”

When it was time for the grand uncovering ceremony of the basket, the whole crowd gathered around Karsseboom. Like a bride awaiting her wedding, the World’s Largest Hanging Basket was revealed to the wonder and adoration of a joyful and caffeinated crowd.

The World’s Largest Hanging Basket was the brainchild of Karsseboom, who initially created it in 2012 with the help of Don Sprague from Garden Gallery Iron Works in Hubbard, OR.

Weighing 3 tons and being 16 feet tall and 10 feet wide, the World’s Largest Hanging Basket resulted from curiosity and a sleepless night.

“I was wondering late at night what the world’s largest hanging basket would be, what it would look like. I took that idea to Don Sprague, who did all the welding, and we drew it up at a Mexican restaurant,” Karsseboom says.

Karsseboom takes great pride in the World’s Largest Hanging Basket, saying, “Someone that has tried to outdo us? I can’t imagine what kind of person that would be.”

According to Karsseboom, he is just getting started with The Garden Corner, and the World’s Largest Hanging Basket is only the beginning of his adventurous spirit.

“It is just the appetizer,” Karsseboom says.

Karsseboom says he is confident that talking to his customers and community will give him positive feedback on where to go, “This is our first year in business, but our 25th attempt.”
