Art is everything. Art is everywhere, and art is the telling of stories,” says Karin Anderson, the newest artist to have paintings on display in the Living Room Gallery at the Tualatin Public Library. This new exhibition features watercolors that cover a range of subjects, taking the viewer on a journey to dreamy, faraway places and to places close by in the secret corners of a backyard garden. Every painting tells a story packed with emotional responses triggered by the beauty of the world seen through her eyes.

Like any good storyteller, Karin captures vivid details and unexpected angles on her subjects, and puts the viewer directly in the situation where he or she can experience the moment afresh along with her.
From luscious botanicals to verdant landscapes, from stunning still-life paintings to intriguing cityscapes, Karin paints it all. Her realism and control of the medium immediately stand out. It is all of those “miles behind the brush,” she would say, that has gained her this mastery of the medium, years of painting, learning, and pushing herself to gain authority with rich colors, perfect brush strokes, and translucent luminosity. Her works are visual poetry.
Karin was raised in Portland, Oregon, and attended Oregon State University and Oregon Health Sciences University. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She has had a lifelong interest in art and is most inspired by nature, travel, and the magic of life.

After a career as a Burn ICU nurse, Karin moved into the world of art. Her work has been shown in many venues and art shows, including Beaverton Art Mix, Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, the Oregon Society of Artists, Nordia House Scandinavian Society, and Rose Schnitzer Manor. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and shares her work on Instagram @karinpdx.
Karin says, “Our world is amazing and beautiful. It is important, almost a necessity, to interpret and tell the story, putting the emotions of the world’s beauty on paper.” Come see her stunning paintings at the Tualatin Library, where they will be on display through May 2026.
