David Brautigam, a Tualatin native, has been writing for over a decade, and his hard work has finally paid off. His book, “Revenge is a Must,” will be published by Amazon on April 3 and will subsequently be turned into a TV series on Netflix.
Brautigam’s day job is in regional business relations for Summit Orthotics and Prosthetics, and he stays up late and gets up early to write. A 2000 graduate of Tualatin High, where he was on the basketball team, Brautigam, 42, attended Lane Community College before going to Western Oregon University, where he was also on the basketball team and met his wife, Cassie. They have two daughters, Ava, who’s in high school, and Payton, a middle school student.
The book, adapted from a screenplay, is described on Amazon as “a gritty and pulse-pounding journey deep into the underworld of crime. A riveting story about family, deceit and devastation, ‘Revenge is a Must’ thrusts you headfirst into a world where every choice carries staggering consequences.”
The book is an homage to some of his favorite crime movies, Brautigam said, such as The Godfather, Departed and Casino. “It has the ultimate shock value in three or four scenes, but has a very good ending,” he said. “That’s one of the things that drives me, that it ends well.”
He’s also working on a prequel to “Revenge is a Must” after Amazon called and asked him if he’d be interested in writing one. “I told them I’d already thought about that and started writing it that night.”
The book, available in hardcover, paperback, E-book, and audiobook, can be pre-ordered on Amazon. It will also be available online at Kobo, Google Reads, Lulu, and Barnes & Noble and sold at Barnes & Noble stores throughout the country.
Brautigam has written three screenplays that Amazon will also adapt as books and release in the coming years: “Lost Meaning of Loyalty,” “Incarcerated,” and “City of Graves,” which he hopes will also become a TV series.
“Amazon will publish the other three books over the next few years,” he said. “And Netflix has indicated its intention to make three more series.”
