Before she was hit-maker Carole King — she was Carol Joan Klein, a spunky, young songwriter from Brooklyn with a unique voice. From the chart-topping hits she wrote for the biggest acts in music to her own life-changing, trailblazing success with Tapestry, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical takes you back to where it all began.

Beautiful is the inspiring tale about a girl who became King with a stirring book by the late Oscar and Tony Award-nominated Douglas McGrath and the music and lyrics of icons Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil. Featuring unforgettable classics as “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “So Far Away,” “Take Good Care of My Baby,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman,” this Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical phenomenon is filled with the songs you remember and a story you’ll never forget.

Artistic Director, Sharon Maroney, is thrilled to bring this story to the Portland-area. “One of the best things about running a theater is that you get to produce shows that you know will transport your audiences,” said Maroney. “This is one of those shows.” Audiences can expect to be wowed with extraordinary music and impressive choreography, in addition to a captivating narrative.

The Broadway Rose production will be directed by Lyn Cramer and choreographed by Rosharra Francis, with musical direction by Billy Thompson. Scenic design is by Bryan Boyd, lighting design by Kristeen Willis, and costume design by Allison Dawe. Properties design is by Sam Manilla, and sound design is by Brian Karl Moen, with Kimberly D’Agnese as production manager, and Jessica Junor as production stage manager.

The cast comprises of Merideth Kaye Clark (Carole King), Benjamin Tissell (Gerry Goffin), Jennifer Lynn Teel (Cynthia Weil), Norman Wilson (Barry Mann), Joey Klei (Don Kirshner), Emily Sahler (Genie Klein). The ensemble comprises Kristin Alarcon (Marilyn Wald), Robert Altieri (Righteous Brother/ Neil Sedaka/ Lou Adler), Nate Ayers (Righteous Brother/ Nick/ Bobby Vee), Bree Boswell (Shirelle/ Little Eva), Darion Elie (Drifter), Chloe Evans (Shirelle), Lydia Fleming (Shirelle 4/ Janelle Woods), Jeff George (ensemble), Kurleen George (Shirelle/ Lucille), Belle Shippy (ensemble), Richaun Stewart (Drifter), Myles Sturns-Thomas (Drifter), Sydney Valaer (Betty), and Bryce Williams (Drifter).
