Winona Grange holds its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 8340 SW Seneca St. The free family afternoon features harvest-themed crafts, a photo booth, games, prizes and much more. Kids will decorate pumpkins to take home. Costumes are welcome, and prizes will be given to the top four. In keeping with the family-friendly atmosphere, the Grange asks that costumes not be threatening or scary.
New this year, a dessert decorating contest starts the day off downstairs. Cash prizes of First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $25 and People’s Choice $25 will be awarded. Winning creations will be featured as prizes in a traditional cakewalk happening upstairs.
Win tickets for donated door prizes such as passes to the Enchanted Forest, Evergreen Space & Aviation Museum, the World Forestry Center, OMSI, Tualatin Parkour and Archers Afield, by playing a farm trivia contest, four-seasons Wheel of Farming, or by answering questions to the Harvest Trivia contest. Meet local farmers and learn about the food you eat. Finally, end the day at the free ice cream social.
First organized in 1895 to bring isolated farm families together, the Winona Grange has long been a place for members to meet. The Winona Grange has been around longer than Tualatin has been incorporated. Having marked its 129th anniversary in September, the Winona Grange has held countless workshops, festivals, breakfasts, dinners, dances and plays for the community over the years.
Today, Grange membership includes backyard gardeners and urban dwellers who buy local and try to keep abreast of issues that affect our food supply. The Grange is currently accepting applications for membership.
