Your superstitious friends may think Friday, September 13, brings bad luck. But Tualatin Historical Society’s 15th annual fundraiser that evening promises to be anything but ominous. A 48-person limit guarantees plenty of fine food and adult beverages, plus a close-up look at the history of modern magic by Professor DR Schreiber, an authentic conjurer. Time is 5:30 – 8 p.m.

The luck begins with cash prizes of $500, $250, or $100 for those whose $10 raffle ticket is drawn that night. Tickets are on sale now at the Tualatin Historical Society website (www.tualatinhistory.org). Winners do not need to be present. Entry for the event is $50 now or $60 at the door. Call Rick at 503-885-1926 to sign up to attend or to purchase raffle tickets. Credit cards are accepted.

The $25 mystery wine pull includes white and red specialties from wineries around the Northwest. Retail values of the selections range from $40 to $125.

A silent auction features a 4-hour ride-along with a Tualatin police officer, a private tour of the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue headquarters in Tigard to learn how emergencies are handled, shadow the brewmaster at Ancestry Brewing not far from where Tualatin farmers once grew hops, original mixed media art of six Tualatin Heritage Center historic plants by THS member Jenny Reed Stout, custom jewelry created by Sella Sage, lunch with Mayor Frank Bubenik at a Tualatin restaurant of your choice, a tour of Magic Castle Hollywood including two Alaska Air roundtrip tickets, private photoshoot with Al Stewart Photography with thumb drive afterward, and more! To top it off, dozens of gift cards totaling hundreds of dollars from local area retailers will be for sale.

The caterer this year is Sylvia Hartman, former owner of Lugano’s in Tualatin and current owner of Elka Bee’s. Proceeds from the Society’s only major fundraiser help assure that THS can continue to preserve and protect Tualatin’s rich and colorful history and maintain heritage center weekday hours year-round.

Professor DR Schreiber is a historian, performer and teacher of young magicians. He has practiced legerdemain throughout the West Coast and the United Kingdom and honed his entertainment skills as a Disneyland television producer and cast member.

Tualatin Heritage Center is located at 8700 SW Sweek, adjacent to the police station. The Center is owned by the City of Tualatin, operated by the Society, and maintains regular hours year-round. Rentals are available for public and private events alike. It was formerly a Methodist church along Boones Ferry and Tualatin-Sherwood Roads. In addition to exhibits, a small gift shop is available.
