With summer fast approaching, that means the end of another school year and the end of the spring sports season.
Plenty of Tualatin athletes finished out the year strong. Here’s a look around the school at how spring sports wrapped up:
Track and Field

At the recent Oregon State Track and Field Championship meet, senior Campbell Brintnall was the standout for the Timberwolves, bringing home two state titles. Brintnall won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
The wins cap off a dominant senior season for Brintnall. In the 100 meter, she never finished lower than second throughout the year, and finished first in nine of her last 10 races in the event. She had a rough start in the first 300-meter event of the season and then never looked back, winning the last eight 300-meter events of the year.
She was also part of the 4×100 meter relay team that won a Three Rivers League title at the league championship meet in Oregon City. She was joined on the relay team by Emily Rufener, Nahla McCrae, and Giselle Gates.
Tualatin also received some impressive finishes at the state meet outside of the two hurdle events. On the girls side, McCrae brought home a third-place finish in the long jump and a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. This was after a strong showing at the Three Rivers League meet, where she finished first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.
Brock Estes wrapped up an impressive freshman year by finishing third in the 110 meter hurdles at the state championship meet.
Senior Vincent Sadighi finished fifth in the 200 meter, and sophomore Lauren Gerlach finished sixth in the 3,000 meter, as well for the Timberwolves.
As a team, the Tualatin girls track team finished seventh at the state meet and second at the Three Rivers League meet.
Baseball

The Timberwolves opened their playoff run with an impressive day from junior Trenton Hertzog, who pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 12. He also gave himself a boost on offense with two doubles and an RBI.
Tualatin’s season ended in the next round with an 8-4 loss at McMinnville. The Timberwolves didn’t go quietly, however. They trailed 8-1 heading into the seventh and scored three, but the comeback stopped there.
For his strong season, Hertzog was named co-Pitcher of the Year in the Three Rivers League. Senior Isaac Pfeifer was named to the All-Three Rivers League First Team at catcher, and senior Jordan Araiza was named to the All-League First Team as an outfielder.
Three Timberwolves were named to the All-Three Rivers League Second Team: senior Brayden Buck in the outfield, junior Owen Hagerman in the infield, and Hertzog as a utility player.
Juniors Cole Newton and Ben Fong were both named honorable mentions for the all-league teams.
Softball

It was looking a bit rough in the latter part of the season for the Tualatin softball team, which lost five straight league games toward the end of April. But the Timberwolves turned things around in rather dramatic fashion with a 28-1 drubbing of Lakeridge.
That kicked off a four-game win streak that included wins against top opponents like West Linn and Tigard. The win against Tigard was an especially exciting one, with the game tied at six in the seventh inning. Senior Ava Diaz singled with one and eventually stole second to put herself in scoring position. With two outs, senior Paley Sullivan singled through the left side and Diaz scored from second to earn the win.
In the first round of the playoffs, Tualatin went on the road and picked up a 7-1 win against Glencoe. In the win, freshman Reese Strode pitched a two-hitter and Sulliven blasted a three-run homer.
Tualatin’s season ended in the second round with a 5-4 loss at McMinnville. Sadie Guyette had four hits and two RBIs, and Sullivan added a double and two RBIs.

“I’m really happy with how our season turned out,” Head Coach Shannon Strode said. “Of course, I wish we won more in the playoffs, but we have a great group of five seniors who all great leaders.”
Guyette was one of two Timberwolves named to the All-Three Rivers League First Team. She was named as a first team infielder, and senior Ava Diaz was named to the All-Three Rivers League First Team as a catcher.
Sullivan was named to the All-Three Rivers League Second Team as an infielder, and Strode was named to the Second Team as a pitcher.
Junior Emalee Andrade was named an honorable mention to the all-league teams.
Strode said the future for the program is bright, especially with players like Andrade, Sophie Jackson, and Ally Boyle ready to step up and lead the program. She also said her own daughter, Reese Strode, had a strong freshman season as the team’s top starting pitcher, and expects her to bring that stability to Tualatin again next year.
She also said all those players saw how the current seniors led the program, and saw how putting the team first can be contagious.
“We had a selfless group of kids,” Coach Strode said. “They really did go out with a team-first mentality. We had a few kids playing positions that might not have been their primary positions. They did whatever was best for the team, and it really showed in what they accomplished.”
Lacrosse

For the second straight year, the Tualatin girls lacrosse team finished atop its conference, going undefeated in NWOC play and finished 10-4 overall.
The Timberwolves kicked off the playoffs with a 12-6 win at home against Summit. Senior Addison Deibele led the way with five goals, followed by three for Rose Frezza. Molly Labhart and Nahdia Santana each scored two.
Tualatin’s second round matchup was a tough one against Central Catholic. The Timberwolves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Central Catholic turned it around to pick up the 7-4 win. Deibele scored three of Tualatin’s goals, and the fourth came from Santana.
Frezza was named NWOC Player of the Year for her strong season, and Deibele was named to the Oregon State Girls Lacross Association All-State Second Team.
Deibele and senior Hadley Cline were both named to the All-League NWOC First Team as attackers, and Labhart and Frezza were named to the league First Team in the midfield.
Sophomore Piper Findtner was named to the all-league Second Team as an attacker, along with Santana, who was named to the team in the midfield, and sophomore Mahaela Horsford on defense.

Over on the boy’s side, The Timberwolves finished 11-7 and came in second in the Northwest Conference. They reached the conference title game against Sherwood, and then won their opening round playoff game Newberg.
Senior Caden Knips was named an honorable mention for the Oregon Lacrosse Association All-State Team in the midfield, and junior Jonathan Ayers was also an honorable mention for the all-state team as a long-stick midfielder.
Ayers was named to the All-Northwest Conference First Team as an LSM, and Knipps was a first-team selection in the midfield, as was junior Trent McMillin. Junior Pierce Mathis was named to the all-conference First Team on defense.
The Timberwolves had plenty of players named to the All-Northwest Conference Second Team. Junior Riley Bunney was named to the second team as an attacker, junior Kyle Farnstorm was selected in the midfield, freshman Brady Knips was picked for the team as a defender, and senior Nick Buela was named to the team as a goalie.
Senior Grady Porter, freshman Nikolas Guerena, and sophomore Issac Mitchell were all honorable mentions for the all-conference teams.
Tennis
On the girls side, senior Hana Yokoi scored a third-place finish in the Three Rivers League Championship tournament, and came in second in the state tournament consolation bracket. She finished her senior year with a record of 17-5 in singles competitions.
On the boys side, senior Marc Khanna won two matches in the Three Rivers League tournament to reach the third round.
Golf
For the third straight year, the Tualatin girls golf team qualified for the state tournament. The qualifying team is made up of all juniors: Natalie Edwards, Abigail Neuman, Faith Ly, Rylee Campbell, and Cailey Pazda.
Edwards was named to the All-League Second Team, and Neuman was an honorable mention for the all-league teams.
Over on the boys side, senior Owen Stewart and sophomore Ethan Paulson were both named honorable mentions for the All-Three Rivers League teams.
Paulson qualified in an at-large bid to compete in the state tournament, making him the first boys golfer from Tualatin to compete for a state title since 2019.
Girls Flag Football

In its inaugural season, the Tualatin girls flag football team looked dominant at times, finishing out the regular season at 11-2. In seven of their wins, the Timberwolves held their opponents to seven points or less.
The team’s first season ended in an opening-round playoff loss to eventual state champion Barlow.
