Get ready for an afternoon of exciting, family-friendly fun at the first annual Tualatin Cup Regatta, coming to Tualatin Lake at the Commons on Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Hosted by the Commercial Community Involvement Organization (CCIO), the Rose City Model Sailboat Club (RCMSC), and the Tualatin Community Police Foundation (TUCPF), this free community event offers fast-paced radio-controlled model sailboat racing, hands-on activities for kids and adults, and opportunities to learn about sailing.
Watch skilled skippers race DragonForce DF65, DragonFlite DF95, and Tippecanoe T37 radio-controlled sailboats in friendly races. After the fleet races, everyone is invited to join open racing, where model sailboat owners of any class—including first-time racers—are welcome to join the fun.
Visitors can also explore exhibits from local community organizations to learn more about the services, programs, and opportunities available in Tualatin. It’s a great opportunity to connect with neighbors while enjoying an afternoon at the lake.
There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved. Adults and children can sign up to pair with an experienced skipper to learn to operate a radio-controlled sailboat. Tabletop lessons on wind power, sailing strategy, and knot tying will also be offered throughout the afternoon. Space for these activities is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
Young sailors will enjoy a special kids’ sailing area featuring handmade wooden sailboats controlled by strings in a kiddie pool. The first 20 children to sign up will even get to take their sailboat home. Kids can also participate in burgee and mainsail art activities.

Tualatin CERT Training Class
