After more than 14 months of remaining closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Juanita Pohl Center, Tualatin’s Active Aging Center, re-opened its doors with limited hours on June 21, 2021 and resumed full normal hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday) on July 1, 2021.
The City of Tualatin continues to follow guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and Washington County. The public is required to wear a mask upon entering all City facilities, including the Juanita Pohl Center. The City is not able to check vaccination status, and so is requiring that masks be worn by all individuals until further notice. Physical distancing will also continue inside the center. Pohl Center staff appreciates everyone’s continued patience, understanding, and compliance to COVID-19 safe practices as the building gradually re-opens to the public.
Despite being closed since March 13, 2020, Pohl Center staff continued to offer a robust virtual program schedule and provided essential services and resources for older adults during the pandemic. Staff is excited to welcome participants back to the center! As successful as the virtual programs have been, and continue to be, nothing beats human & social interaction for most people. In-person programming will gradually make its way back into the building throughout the summer. This includes fitness classes like Gentle Yoga, Tai Chi and Boomer Boot Camp, as well as enrichment programs like Active Living Every Day, Friendship Connection, and other in-person educational programs. Certain programs will continue to have a virtual option through the end of August, as a hybrid model will allow those who wish to remain physically distanced the opportunities for socialization and participation in the center’s activities.
