On October 16th, runners/walkers will take their mark in the Tualatin Community Park.  The Regatta 5k fundraiser will benefit the youth of Tualatin. The starting bell will send runners off at 9 am, followed closely by walkers at 9:15 am.

The run will feature a fun harvest mood.  Any runner or walker is free to wear a costume. This could be a great family event. The park trees will be in autumn splendor and the pathways will make a perfect venue to show off all harvest gear. When the race is complete, a unique trick-or-treating event will begin for the youngest athletes.

The Regatta Run began 13 years ago to honor the service and sacrifice of Corporal Matthew Lembke.  Matt was a 2005 graduate of Tualatin High School. He joined the Marines and did two tours in Iraq and a third tour in Afghanistan. He gave his life for our country, and The Regatta Run honors his memory. For over a decade, scholarships in his name have advanced the educational opportunities for our local high schoolers. Every step you take will do good in our community.

So why should you register and participate?

Serious runner!  This race has been expertly measured.  The course winds its way through three city parks. The trails are flat and full of fall foliage. It is truly a cross-country venue with pathways of forested twists and turns and easy concrete straightaways. Race timing will be professionally done. Once you are registered, your packets will be available at Road Runner Sports in Tualatin on Thursday before the race. This could become your favorite fall competition.

Fall Fun!  Come and join in with your neighbors and friends to celebrate the harvest season. Student representatives from our high school will line the course and bring a bit of spooky joy with them. The Crimsonaires will start the day with their rendition of the national anthem, members of the TuHS FBLA will volunteer, and the VFW will host a breakfast after the race.

Costumes! Everyone is looking forward to festivities this October. Start off the season with the Regatta Run!  Any registered runner or walker is encouraged to dress in costume. Babies in strollers and furry friends on leashes are welcomed participants. Registered children ages five and up will be treated to a unique trick or treating event. Local business sponsors will set up treat tables, and Rotarians will be there too. Spooky trick-or-treat bags will be provided.

Safe!  Our race will be following all safety guidelines. Masks will be required at the start and finish, but once runners and walkers are on the path, the decision will be yours. This totally outdoor event is just what the doctor ordered!

Honor!  The memory of Corporal Matthew Lembke lives on through the Regatta Run. Your participation is a thoughtful thank you for his sacrifice.  Matt loved life, and in his name, this race keeps his joy alive. For thirteen years, students have attended college in his name. Into the future, Matt’s reach will extend to all youth in our community. His impact will be seen in the toddlers who get their first books to the third graders who delight in dictionaries to middle schoolers who are provided a mentor, and to the high schoolers who join a sport or a club with the help of your racing dollars.

Registration is well underway. Go to regattarun.com and add your name to this good cause. If you cannot attend but wish to contribute, you can register as a non-participant, and your generosity will impact the opportunities for youth.

Doing good makes you feel good. The Regatta Run promises you both!
