Friends of the Tualatin Public Library Media Sale

Saturday, Sept 16th – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The Friends of the Tualatin Public Library will hold an electronic media sale in the library lobby. This sale will feature DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. Proceeds of the sale support programs and purchases that would otherwise be outside the library’s budget, including Summer Reading, the Music by the Hearth series, and more.

Postpartum Support Group

Thursdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Did you recently have a baby? Do you have questions? Are you feeling all the feelings? Join postpartum doula Krystal Williams for a program of connection and caring for new moms. No registration required. Meets in the Community Room.

Make paper creations with the Portland Oregon Paper Shapers! Challenge yourself with a complex origami masterpiece, or keep it simple while learning the basics.

Ice Age Floods Institute

Thursday, September 21st – 7:00 – 8:00pm

The Lower Columbia Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute presents Mike Full, who will give a presentation about the Willamette Valley Pleistocene Project in the Community Room. Mike is a native Oregonian and retired police officer with a lifelong fascination with fossils and prehistoric life.

Storytimes are back!

After a short break, storytimes have returned to Tualatin Public Library in September! 

All storytimes held in the Community Room. For more information and dates, please visit our web calendar. 

  • Babies – Mondays at 10:30: calling all babies and their caregivers! Join us for a special lap-sit storytime designed specifically for babies. Perfect for ages 0-18 months. 
  • Tiny Tots Storytime – Tuesdays at 10:30: do you have a little wiggleworm who won’t sit still in storytime? Tiny Tots is specifically designed for new walkers and wiggly young toddlers. Lots of singing, dancing, and moving our bodies. Perfect for ages 12 months to 2.5 years. 
  • Storytime – Wednesday at 10:30: if you like to sing songs and get silly with stories, come to Toddler Storytime! Perfect for ages 2-4 years. 
  • Preschool Storytime – Thursdays at 1:00pm: join us on a storytime alphabet adventure! Stories and rhymes celebrating all the letters. Perfect for ages 3-6 years. 

Taphouse Trivia

Tuesday, September 26th at 6:00 pm

Join librarian Doug at Stickmen Brewing (19475 SW 118th Ave STE 1, Tualatin, OR 97062) on the final Tuesday of the month for several rounds of trivia! Enjoy fabulous drinks and pizza, as well as prizes for the winners! For adults.

The Shrunken Regatta 3: Under the Sea

September 25th through October 15th.
While supplies last!

The Shrunken Regatta returns for a third year, and this year’s theme is “Under the Sea”! For first timers or those who want a refresher, the Shrunken Regatta is a mini pumpkin decorating contest and public art display held at Tualatin Public Library.

Starting on September 25th, swing by the Information Desk at the library to grab your take-home pumpkin decorating kit, which includes a mini pumpkin, a paint set and an entry slip. Feel free to use anything else at your disposal to decorate your pumpkin. When you’re done, bring your pumpkin back along with your entry slip and find a great spot for your pumpkin on our display. On October 15th we’ll choose three of our favorites to win a $25 Visa gift card!

September Makerspace Project: Hand-stitched Embroidery

Each month the Makerspace will have a featured theme with projects everyone is invited to try. We’ll supply the materials, tools, and instructions. Come in and work on your project all month long in September during our Open Lab hours!

August’s featured project is hand-stitched embroidery.

Open Lab hours are as follows:

  • Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Sundays, 1:30 – 5:30 PM
  • Tuesdays, 5:30 – 7:30 PM
  • Thursdays, 4:00 – 6:00 PM

Citizen Science: GLOBE Eclipse

Starts October 7th, while supplies last

Energy from the Sun warms our planet, and changes in sunlight can cause changes in temperature, clouds, and wind. What happens when the Sun is blocked by the Moon during an eclipse? How will the eclipse affect` these solar-powered processes? Come by the library and pick up a kit of eclipse glasses, a thermometer and information on how to download and use the GLOBE app so that you can contribute to NASA’s study of how the eclipse affects weather.

Teen Hang Out

Fridays, starting October 6th, at 6:00 pm

Get out of the house! Hang out with your friends! Games, crafts, and more! Bring money to purchase soda and candy. For grades 6-12. Held in the Teen Room

OMSI Portable Planetarium

Saturday, October 7th,  10:30 am and 12:30 pm

Come explore the stars with OMSI in their portable planetarium! A trained educator will guide you through the stars from the safety of the library.  

For all ages. Two times (same show) Registration is required. Held in the Community Room.

Music at the Hearth: Peter Fletcher Guitar Recital

Sunday, October 8th, 2:00 pm • Library Hearth • Free

Guitarist Peter Fletcher returns with a selection of Baroque, Latin and other classical pieces. His masterful playing is not to be missed by classical music lovers.

Vine 2 Wine

Saturday, October 14th, 7:00 pm

The Tualatin Library Foundation presents Vine2Wine 2023, a fundraiser supporting Tualatin Library. Vine2Wine features free tastings from select Oregon wineries, live music, and gourmet food samplings. 

This year’s event features wine tastings provided by six premium Northwest wineries: Abacela, Buddha Kat Winery, Catman Cellars, Lujon Wine Cellars, Sineann Winery, and Willamette Valley Vineyards. And, introducing mixology by Straightaway Cocktails. 

Vocal duo Susan Sandel and Kevin Karrick will perform a variety of tunes from the American songbook. The night will include gourmet food samplings and a silent auction. 

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at TualatinLibraryFoundation.org or at the Tualatin Library (cash/check only). Funds raised benefit the Tualatin Library Foundation endowment, which supports literacy and STEAM-education projects through Tualatin Public Library.
