In recent years, our region has experienced a range of extreme weather events—from hail and ice storms to high winds, lightning, flooding, and even dangerous heat waves. Has your family been affected by one of these events? Were you ready with the supplies and information needed to stay safe? Could you and your neighbors manage if you had to shelter in place for five days?

If your answer is “not yet,” now is the perfect time to start preparing. The Tualatin Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is here to help.

CERT trains local volunteers to become better prepared and able to assist others during emergencies. Members learn about disaster preparedness, the hazards most likely to affect Tualatin, and practical response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team coordination, and basic medical operations.

CERT training is part of a national FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) program that equips communities to respond when professional emergency services may be overwhelmed or delayed. The training consists of a 25-hour course led by certified instructors, providing hands-on experience and vital skills for real-life situations.

Throughout the year, CERT offers ongoing training and service opportunities, helping our neighborhoods build resilience and confidence—no matter what challenges come our way.

Join us this summer for the annual Tualatin Emergency Preparedness Fair! Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, exhibitors, and community partners, the fair offers engaging information, interactive experiences, valuable resources—and even prizes! It’s a great way to take your first step toward readiness.

Help yourself, your family, and your community stay safe and strong. Join CERT and be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws our way.
