They’re creepy and they’re kooky…mysterious and spooky. They’re all together ooky…The Addams Family Musical is hitting the main stage at Tualatin High School on May 10, 11, 17 and 18.

“The Addams Family,” a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done: keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

The cast and crew include some familiar and new faces on the Tualatin stage. The show, directed by Jenn Hunter Tindle, stars Jillian Mangum as Morticia, Henry Findtner as Gomez, Marygrace Simpson as Wednesday, Madelyn Purcell as Alice, Zeina Eisawy as Grandma and Angel Lopez Gomez as Lucas among a host of colorful characters. Many cast and crew members are in classes or have worked on past productions together. Simpson states, “This cast is really unique in that we are all very close friends. The Addams Family members already feel like family outside of this show and school. I’m very grateful to have my closest friends as my family members in this show. Tualatin’s choir and theater departments are very close already, so many of us know one another through the events those classes bring up.”

What was the inspiration behind doing Addams Family? Hunter Tindle recalls the students sending her an email with a picture of a napkin where they had listed the reasons to do this show. “How could we ignore a pitch like that? In all seriousness, it’s a great show with charm and catchy tunes. What’s not to love?” exclaims Hunter Tindle.

Many cast members state that the show will appeal to everybody because of its universalism and humor. The variety of characters offers something that can be relatable to each audience member of all ages. Family dynamics are relatable and reflected in our Tualatin family audience. Humor and love help connect our characters to our audience. Purcell states, “This show also has beautiful orchestrations, and our technical team has been working so hard to make this show incredible.” Findtner adds, “This show gives a ton of chances for everyone to shine, and there really isn’t one main role. All of the characters are highlighted in some way, including the ensemble featuring their own unique characters.”

Purcell says, “The Tualatin community should 100% come and see this show because it really does have something for everyone. It is a tribute to the classic Addams family story as well as a new spin on Wednesday entering adulthood with hilarious features of all of the quirky characters in the Addams family. We have a live orchestra and a wonderful technical crew. You really can’t miss this show! The message of loving your family despite their weirdness and oddness is something we can definitely all relate to, not only that, but every one of the songs in this musical is absolutely fantastic!”

Cast members describe the show as comedic, spooky, hilarious, silly, passionate and exciting. The foundational descriptive word is… FAMILY! Come out to support our talented students and community!
