Volunteering helps build strong communities, develop new skills, and engage with your neighbors. The Friends of the Tualatin Library is putting out the call for more volunteers to join us in our work.

We are currently looking for:

• Community Book Sale Coordinator Co-chair

Work closely with the current co-chair to plan and execute our semi-annual community book sales. We hold two large book sales each year, in May and November. You’ll be busy around each sale date, but work slows considerably in between sales.

• Membership Chairperson

This volunteer will work to sustain and increase our membership. You can work from home while tracking and processing membership applications and payments. There is one membership drive annually at the end of the year and then ongoing work is about 1 hour per week.

• Board of Directors

Help manage the affairs of the Friends between our annual membership meetings, including the disbursement of funds. Our Board is a working board, and members are expected to participate in committees, workgroups, or other activities as needed. The Board meets every other month for 1.5 hours. We also have one planning work session annually.

• Board President

Provide leadership, coordination, and vision while working collaboratively with fellow board members and volunteers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys strategic oversight, community engagement, and nonprofit governance. The President leads regular Board meetings every other month as well as our annual working session. Other duties include representing the FOTL at community events, facilitating the appointment of committees and meeting with potential board members and volunteers. The ongoing work is approximately 3 hours weekly.

The Friends of the Tualatin Library was founded in 2005 by a small group of volunteers with the goal of raising money for the Tualatin Library. Since then, we have donated over $250,000 for equipment and programs outside the library budget. The Friends currently support the Summer Reading program for children, teens and adults; a variety of popular music events; MakerSpace equipment and supplies; and many other programs for all ages.

Our current Board members range in age from their twenties into their eighties. Some are working – some retired. We have birders, mahjong players, and a few local history buffs. Most live in Tualatin, but not all; we just share a love of libraries and promoting literacy. Our ideal candidate believes in libraries, literacy, and helping make great memories for the community.

If you are already a volunteer or a member and would like to get a little more involved, please let us know. If you’re not currently a volunteer or member but are curious about how you can help us help the library, we’d love to talk to you! Please reach out to: president@friendsoftualatinlibrary.org to learn more.
