It’s time for Tualatin residents to stand up against the reckless and aggressive driving plaguing our town. When I moved to Oregon, we still had a reputation for being laid-back and courteous drivers. But over the past five years, that seems to have changed.
In just the past week, I’ve seen:
- A speed reading of 42 mph on the sign along Martinazzi Avenue
- A driver passing several cars at the stop sign on Martinazzi at Iroquois
- Cars speeding down the center turn lane on Boones Ferry during rush hour, then cutting back in right before the I-5 onramp
- A vehicle driving into oncoming traffic to pass on Tualatin Sherwood Road
- A driver using the shoulder and sidewalk to bypass cars waiting at a red light on Basalt Creek Parkway at Grahams Ferry
This doesn’t even cover the dangerous speeds people hit on the freeway, especially in the 45 mph construction zones on I-5 and I-205, where drivers routinely hit 65-70 mph.
It’s terrifying to see how blatant the disregard for traffic laws has become. These irresponsible and aggressive drivers put everyone in Tualatin at risk, especially those walking and biking. We must demand more enforcement and accountability before someone gets seriously hurt. If we don’t act now, it’s only a matter of time before tragedy strikes.
