Jill Zurschmeide announced today that she is running for her fifth term on the Tigard-Tualatin School Board in the May 16 election.

A school board director for sixteen years, Zurschmeide cites her extensive experience and deep understanding of the district. Her goals for another term include continuing efforts to recover from pandemic learning losses, addressing students’ social and emotional needs, and maintaining the district’s focus on rigorous academics for every single student in the district.

The Tigard-Tualatin School District has noted achievements in many areas during Zurschmeide’s time in office, including graduation rates, literacy, and equity. In 2022, 95% of seniors at Tualatin High School earned diplomas – an all-time high graduation rate. The district has expanded its successful two-way language immersion program, and now offers classes taught in Spanish and English from kindergarten through high school. The board eliminated “pay-to-play” fees, allowing students from all income levels to participate in sports.

Oregon school board positions are non-partisan. “The focus must always be on what is best for our kiddos: academics, safety, and physical and emotional well-being.”

Zurschmeide was first elected to the board in 2007 after volunteering in classrooms and on committees. She has served several terms as board chair and vice chair. A retired technical editor, Zurschmeide has one daughter who attended and graduated from TTSD schools.
