Evan feels like an outsider. When tragedy strikes, he is thrust into the spotlight, offering him a chance to be seen—for better or worse. His innocent attempt at reinvention causes a viral social media storm and the truth unravels. With book by Steven Levenson, and music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, this coming-of-age story demonstrates the power of human connection and a desire we all have: to belong. Profoundly raw and heartfelt, Dear Evan Hansen reminds us that we will be found.
When Dear Evan Hansen premiered on Broadway in 2016, it quickly became far more than the writers expected. “We thought, ‘okay, this will be a show that reflects who we are as artists,’” Paul said in a 2018 interview for the San Francisco Chronicle. “There may not be very many people in the world who want to see it, but that’s okay.” Instead, audiences around the world embraced the show, and Dear Evan Hansen became a worldwide cultural and social media movement. With songs such as “You Will Be Found” and “Waving Through a Window,” the creators captured the emotions of a generation navigating loneliness, identity, and the search for belonging in an increasingly digital world. The show received six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score.
The Broadway Rose cast is comprised of Ryan Burton as Evan Hansen, Erin Tamblyn as Heidi Hansen, Sophie MacKay as Zoe Murphy, Cuin Moore as Connor Murphy, Courtney Fero as Cynthia Murphy, and Ryan Reilly as Larry Murphy. Also featured will be Brady Allen as Jared Kleinman and Azhia Ellis as Alana Beck.
