The holidays are an ideal time to look back with thanks and to celebrate the coming year with optimism and promise. This is my first holiday message as Mayor, so I would like to take a moment to do both.

To start with I am very grateful for the sacrifices being made by our military and public safety personnel who protect our nation and city, safeguard our freedom, and secure our liberties. They risk their lives daily and may be apart from their loved ones during the holidays, sometimes for a long deployment overseas. That sacrifice is not taken lightly by me nor our community.

I offer my sincere thanks to all our city volunteers. You are critical to Tualatin and your time and efforts contribute significantly to the progress and enhancement of our community. Volunteers donate thousands of hours annually doing everything from planting trees, shelving books at the library, assisting with Meals on Wheels, serving on citizen advisory committees and emergency preparedness teams, to assisting the police department.

I also want to express my appreciation to all City of Tualatin employees. They are dedicated, committed, and provide outstanding service to our residents. Their day-to-day work includes providing recreational services, maintaining our water, sewer and road systems, improving transportation, protecting our environment and performing administrative and management activities. I routinely hear very positive comments about our city staff and they work hard to make Tualatin a very special place.

As I and your city council look forward to 2020 and its new and exciting opportunities, we remain committed to our vision of being an inclusive and informed community that has a thriving economy, safe neighborhoods, an efficient transportation system and vibrant gathering places.

I wish you all a joyous holiday season, and a happy, healthy, and successful New Year.
