Scouting continues strong in Tualatin and Tigard communities, providing leadership and community service for the Youth involved. This past summer, two Eagle Scout projects provided improvements to the front grounds at the Tualatin Valley Elks Lodge with a new 25 ft flagpole, LED lighting, an armed services monument, pavers, and landscape rock.

Tor Helland (Troop 530) installed a third flagpole to make room for a POW-MIA flag and upgraded the lighting to energy-efficient LEDs.

Tor Helland (Troop 530) installed a third flagpole to make room for a POW-MIA flag and upgraded the lighting to energy-efficient LEDs. Over 800 pounds of concrete was poured to secure the foundation tube three feet below the ground surface. Tor faced some unexpected challenges with the COVID-19 restrictions, the flagpole was mistakenly sent to the east coast, and dealing with wildfire smoke. “This was the largest scale project I’ve completed and it was rewarding to overcome all the obstacles to help improve the front of the Elk’s Lodge” – Tor Helland.

To honor the men and women of our armed services, Connor Henderson (Tigard Troop 423) constructed a monument that includes emblems for all branches of our military. He also installed pavers in front of each flagpole and landscape rock around the entire area. Thank you to the following local businesses for contributing to the success of this project: Willamette Graystone, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Crowley’s Granite Concepts, and Grimm’s Fuel.
