Broadway Rose offers their summer blockbusters at the Deb Fennell Auditorium each year, and Cinderella is no exception, featuring a cast of 23 accompanied by a 13-piece live orchestra. Whimsical, lavish, and romantic, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella  is the 2013 Broadway adaptation of the classic 1957 musical. The score features beloved songs from the original, such as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” sprinkled with additional works from the Rodgers and Hammerstein canon, while new characters and an updated book help usher the story into the 21st century. Filled with breathtaking special effects, sparkling costumes, and gorgeous music, this modern fairy tale will sweep you off your feet and let you believe in the power of possibilities.

From the popular musical theatre duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II (The King and I, Sound of Music, Oklahoma!), Cinderella was originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, and twice remade for television, first in 1965 for Lesley Ann Warren and again in 1997, featuring Brandy and Whitney Houston. The original Broadway production of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella opened in 2013 and starred Laura Osnes, Santino Fontana, Victoria Clark, and Harriet Harris.

“The story of Cinderella has always felt like a timeless classic,” says Director and Choreographer Lyn Cramer, “and the 2013 Broadway revival presented audiences with a reimagined story to tell, with Douglas Carter Beane’s sharp and humorous new book creating a fairy tale for today. The show’s focus shifted from ‘love at first sight’ to themes of social justice, charity, generosity, compassion, kindness, and the ability to change those around us through forgiveness.”

Music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane, and original book by Oscar Hammerstein II. Orchestrations by Danny Troob and music adaptation and arrangements by David Chase. The Broadway Rose production will be directed and choreographed by Lyn Cramer with music direction by Alan D. Lytle. Scenery rental provided by Front Row Theatrical Rental with lighting design by Kristeen Willis, and costume design by Travis Grant with Maine State Music Theatre. Properties design by Sam Manilla, sound design by Brian Karl Moen, with Seth Renne as production manager, Raef Wheaton as technical director, and Jessica Junor as production stage manager.
