The Tualatin Kiwanis Club has been putting on a Holiday Food Drive since the 1980’s. It started off as a way to gather food items to deliver to individual families in the community who were in need. Retail stores and businesses in the community were contacted to place a barrel in their facility to gather non-perishable food items. Then the food was sorted and packed in boxes for distribution by the Kiwanis Club members. Food boxes were delivered to the families along with toys supplied by City of Tualatin employees.

After several years, the project became so successful in the amount of food gathered that a decision was made to transition it to partner with the Tualatin Schoolhouse Food Pantry. Since then, the food gathered from the barrels by the Tualatin Kiwanis has been delivered to the Food Pantry where it can be distributed to a wider number of families. The Kiwanis Holiday Food Drive has generally averaged over 2,000 pounds of food to be provided to the Food Pantry to benefit families in need throughout the community. Please help by contributing non-perishable food items. In Tualatin, you can find our barrels at the Tualatin Library and the Juanita Pohl Center. If your business would like to have us place a food barrel there, please email Wallie Downs at mg-pins@usa.com.
