On Feb. 7, the Regatta Run Event Team presented the $16,780.70 proceeds check from the 2016 Run to the Timberwolf Support Organization(TSO). The TSO is just as its name implies: a tax-exempt support organization for Tualatin High School. The TSO has a long history of doing what’s best for kids. “Their support of students and staff at Tualatin High School has been an essential part of our success.” In this case, the TSO is the new manager for the finances for the Regatta Run, (instead of the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce) and they are also going to be administrating the Corporal Matthew Lembke Memorial Scholarship Fund (instead of the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools). This is a win-win for the event and the scholarship fund. By having the funds managed at the school and serving as an on-campus location where students can turn in the scholarship application forms, it will help to streamline the whole process for our students. Up until this point, students had to turn in their apps to the Foundation office at the TTSD District Office in Tigard. Additionally, Kathy Stallkamp and Shayla Trimble have converted the scholarship application to a fillable PDF which can now be typed and then printed. Again, this will benefit our potential scholarship applicants greatly by being easier to complete than a hand-written application, which we have used in the past.
Although these mark significant changes, the Regatta Run itself won’t see many changes. It will still be held in conjunction with the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta, and we will still solicit sponsors and donors to help support this wonderful community event. Most of what you see on the day of the event will look the same. The event website will stay the same, and we are hopeful that the event will continue to be a time when friends, family, and community members can come together to honor and remember Corporal Matthew Lembke. To read more about his story and this event, you can go to the event website, which is www. fitcitytualatin.com/regatta-run.
Once again, we’d like to thank the Tualatin Community, our sponsor partners, participants, and donors who have taken part in and supported this event. Next year’s Regatta Run will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Registration will be open in late March.
