In today’s issue, there is an obituary for Kathy Newcomb. Residents and businesses owe Kathy a great deal. CIO volunteers, our neighborhoods, and all of us who care about Tualatin, specifically, are in her debt. Tualatin has a better community because of her. Please take a minute to find her obituary and learn about a powerful, honest, and civic-minded force of nature.
Kathy, along with her husband Bob, loved Tualatin. She believed it was everyone’s duty to stay informed, speak up, and fight for what they believe in. Bob, a retired journalist, was her partner. Her letters and presentations at City Council made an impact.
The Community Involvement Organizations (CIO) were a natural extension of her beliefs. She supported establishing CIOs to provide ongoing fact-finding and advocacy for residents and businesses.
Importantly, Kathy believed that participating was a civic duty. Listening to citizens was a government responsibility. Without that communication, democracy would fail.
On behalf of a wonderful woman, we encourage you to get involved. Find your CIO (see map or visit our website tualatincio.org). Or email tualatincio@gmail.com, and we will connect you with your CIO’s leadership.
