In an effort to foster compassion and community engagement, Hazelbrook Middle School was proud to participate in HMS Cares, a kindness-centered fundraising campaign that encouraged students to pay it forward. Throughout the two-week campaign, students completed Acts of Kindness to show appreciation to their donors, with a goal of performing over 2,500 acts of kindness and raising $20,000.

To culminate the campaign, the school hosted a school-wide Day of Service on Thursday, May 21, where every community classroom took part in a hands-on project aimed at benefiting the broader community. Activities ranged from making sandwiches for the unhoused to planting a community garden. The Hazelbrook PSO partnered with a variety of local organizations, including Love One, Mercy Teams, and Trillium Services. The City of Tualatin’s Volunteer Services co-hosted the event with support from SOLVE and Friends of Trees, who led several projects and provided materials. Tualatin parks maintenance and public works staff were also present to support the effort.

Hazelbrook Middle School, supported by its Parent-Student Organization (PSO), remained committed to creating meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership, empathy, and civic responsibility. “HMS Cares reflected the true spirit of Hazelbrook—students, staff, and families coming together to make a difference,” said Leah Findtner, the PSO Vice President and fundraiser chair. “We were proud to help our students lead with kindness and take action that reflected the values of our community.”
