Bob Dylan’s famous song The Times, They are a Changin’ was written in 1964, but seems quite relevant in modern day Tualatin.

While those who tune in are quite aware, many local citizens have no idea that there is major movement occurring on the future of our roads, transportation system and high density housing starts that will significantly impact our city.

There are plans being considered to widen Boones Ferry & Grahams Ferry, add pedestrian warning lights for the “S” curves on 108th, add a major arterial connection taking 124th south, wrapping around the Tonquin area and finally meeting with Boones Ferry near Day Road.  There is talk of tunnels, bus systems, new signals, parking structures, bike paths and much more.

Additionally, within the next year or two, we’ll see the construction of the huge Marquis Assisted Living Project at the old Tualatin Elementary School at Boones Ferry and Saggert, the construction of an upscale four story apartment complex on Lower Boones Ferry (across from Clubsport) an apartment complex near Brown’s Ferry Park.  This is in addition to the construction of a new tennis club in the same area.

At every opportunity the city seems to be bending over backwards to invite the public to become involved in the process, so you might want to take the time to become educated and have your voice heard.  A great start is www.tualatintsp.org for upcoming discussions and dates.

This issue has many fine articles.  We hear from Tualatin Police Department PIO Jennifer Massey about a personal story that took some real guts to share.  There are many fun offerings for local venues for everyone from bird watchers, local theater buffs, summer camps and much more.

I placed Libby Crawford’s article on the front because I so grossly misinterpreted it at first glance.  When I think of pageants, I don’t typically think of depth and character.  After reading her story, however, I was dead wrong.  The pageant was a means to an end and I couldn’t respect her more for her work in advocating her worthy causes.
