The leaves are falling and Autumn’s calling – one of my personal favorite times of the year, and there is so much to do in our fine city! October 15th kicks off what has become one of Tualatin’s, and for that matter, Oregon’s most popular events: The West Coast Pumpkin Regatta. With costumed characters, 1,000+ pound pumpkins, and a cult-like following, the Regatta is expecting to draw 20,000 people this year! Get there early and you can also join the 2016 Regatta Run 5K Run or Walk – A great way to have fun and raise money for the Cpl. Matthew Lembke Memorial Scholarship Fund, benefiting several deserving TuHS students every year.

You may have noticed this issue is in your mailboxes a couple of days early. Tualatin Life has a long record of advocating for our readers to get involved with the local political process. There’s a lot going on this year, and I’m not just referring to the heated presidential race… When the opportunity to partner and help promote the Tualatin Chamber’s Candidate Forum came up, we took the unprecedented step of moving our press date up five days so we could give our readers advance notice of the forum that will take place this coming Wednesday, September 28th (Our originally scheduled in-home date). There are several important choices you will be making this year, including electing a State Representative, filling a City Council seat, and deciding on two highly contested measures: 97 (Oregon Business Tax Increase) and 34-247 (Tualatin Term Limits). We also have extensive coverage on the election issues on pages 11-15.

There will be another opportunity to meet the candidates a couple of weeks later as the Tualatin Area Aging Task Force presents its own Candidate Forum, with a focus on topics affecting the our older population. Details on page 16 – And speaking of the Task Force, an accompanying story on the facing page 17 illustrates just how effective community involvement can be. This David vs. Goliath story is well worth a read.

Don’t forget to support our advertisers. They make a commitment to Tualatin Life because they care about our community, and recognize the value of having an independent voice in the community.
