COMMUNITY THEATRE RETURNS TO TUALATIN

January 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22. Mask and Mirror Community Theatre opens its new “Unmasked” adult-theme play series at Tualatin Heritage Center with Michele Lowe’s “String of Pearls,” a deeply moving drama that is as fresh as it is funny. Creo Chocolate Factory Tour and Lunch. Wednesday, January 11, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Have lunch at Koji Japanese Restaurant then creatively design and take home your own personalized chocolate bar. Fee includes private tour, lunch, gratuity, escort and transportation. $45 for Tualatin residents.

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Thursday, January 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Explore the Wildlife Center and easy walking trails (1 mile). $5 for transportation.

Cooking with Kids (gluten free/allergy friendly). Monday, January 16, 10-11:30 a.m. Learn some great recipes to cook at home, taught by a nutritional therapy instructor and certified gluten practitioner. Fee required.

Middle Eastern Style Cooking Class. Tuesday, January 17, 6:30-9 p.m. Prepare and share a five-course meal inspired by countries of the Middle East using high-quality, fresh ingredients. $75 for Tualatin residents.

Everyone Is An Artist: Exploring Watercolor. Wednesdays, January 18 to March 8, 1-3 p.m. This class will explore watercolor painting, materials, techniques and practices with a bit of art history and brain gym thrown in. A materials fee of $20 is due to instructor on first day of class. Pregistration required. $60 for Tualatin residents.

Chalk Painting (ages 18 and up). Saturdays, January 21 to February 18, 1:30-p.m. Learn the basics of using chalk paint and walk away with your own projects. Fee includes art supplies. $53 for Tualatin residents.

Beaverton Symphony Orchestra Winter Concert. Sunday, January 22, 2-5:30. Enjoy an afternoon of classical music. Fee includes admission, escort and transportation. $16 for Tualatin residents.

Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls. Tuesday, January 24, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hike between these two popular waterfalls for 3 miles (moderate level). Fee includes bag lunch and transportation. $15 for Tualatin residents.

City of Tualatin Geography Bee. Friday, January 27, 1-2:30 p.m. Come out and test your geographic knowledge on the state of Oregon. A $50 gift card will be awarded to the winner, $25 to the runner up. Free.

Leach Botanical Garden and Lunch. Tuesday, January 31, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Explore unique botanical, artistic and natural landscapes followed by lunch at Biscuits café. Fee includes lunch, gratuity, escort and transportation. $25 for Tualatin residents.

Oregon Coast Aquarium and Lunch. Monday, February 6, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Join a group traveling to Newport for lunch at Georgie’s Beachside Grill then explore the underwater world of the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Fee includes admission, lunch, gratuity, escort and transportation. $55 for Tualatin residents.

LIVE MUSIC

Local musicians Gene Denardo & Marc Anderson perform at Lakeside Bistro on the Tualatin Commons on Thursday, January 5th from 7:00-10:00pm.

SPECIAL EVENTS AT TUALATIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Felting Workshops for three Wednesdays: January 18, Wet Felted Cane Beads; January 25, Wet Felted Bangles; and February 8, Needle Felted Cakes. Library Community Room, $20 at the door by cash or check.

Sunday, January 22, 2 p.m. Mbrascatu. A musical product of the creative melting pot of Portland, this is an indie rock band that draws from diverse European and American roots to create a unique sound. Library Hearth Area. Free.

Remembering the Good Old Days in Tualatin. Wednesday, January 4, 1 p.m. Tualatin Historical Society co-founder Loyce Martinazzi moderates a discussion among old-timers who remember the ways things were during the years they worked or lived with their families here. Guests will include Lloyd and Helen Koch, Barb and Bob Kern, Frances Wager Perry, and Larry Lee.

New Technologies Meet Ancient Fossils, Thursday, January 19, 7 p.m. Julian Gray, CEO of the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Hillsboro, explores how micro-photography and new software can open up our eyes even more to the world of small gems, minerals, and fossils. He will focus on Pleisto-cene artifacts at the museum. $3 suggested donation for adults.

Treasures from the THS Attic. Wednesday, February 1, 1 pm. Tualatin Historical Society when Archives Committee members share a variety of unique items that reflect Tualatin’s rich and colorful history. You will hear what the artifact is, how it was used, who owned it, and who donated it.

MEMORY CAFÉ

Social Group for laughter, camaraderie and understanding: 2nd Wednesday of every month, 2:00-3:00pm @ Famous Dave’s BBQ Tualatin. Do you care for someone who has Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia? Imagine a setting in which you’re given the opportunity to socialize in a safe setting with other folks like you! BICYCLING

The Great Ride Series – Saturday mornings at 9:00am. Beginner level starting and ending at Performance Bicycle Tualatin. The ride is for beginners, those getting back in the saddle, or riders who want to add some variety to their cycling. The ride will last approximately one hour, and will go at an average pace of between 12 and 15 miles per hour. We’ll explore some of the local bike paths and some residential routes, as well. “No Rider Left Behind” ride. COMING UP NEXT MONTH

Annual Snowball Daddy/Daughter Dance Friday, February 10 and Saturday February 11, 6:30-8:30 pm. Dads will dance the night away with their daughter(s) ages 3 and up. Enjoy fancy desserts, sparkling decorations and a souvenir keepsake photo. Register early as space is limited to the first 50 couples each night. Register online at www.tualatinoregon.com.
